Consider a hypothetical biochemical pathway involving the following reactions, which occur in sequence.

(1) M + X → MX        ΔG = +150 kJ/mol

(2) MX + Z → MZ +X ΔG = -225 kJ/mol

The net reaction for a series of chemical reactions is the sum total of all the chemical changes that occur. If molecules are consumed in one reaction, but produced in another reaction in equal quantities, they are not included in a net reaction. What is the net reaction if both reaction (1) and reaction (2) above are occurring in a cell?
