Case Study

Timothy is a first-semester freshman. Going to college has been a goal of his since elementary school. Now that he is here, he is very excited and is eager to do well. However, after three weeks of classes, some of the excitement has turned to feelings of stress and anxiety. He is starting to feel overwhelmed. Because he still wants to do well his first semester, he begins the next week, by telling himself he'll study more, be better organized and manage his time more effectively. Yet, by the end of the week, not much has changed. In fact, he has taken exams in two of his classes and made a 63% and 68%. He is starting to question whether coming to college was mistake and wonders if he belongs here.

1. Has Timothy set goals for his first semester? Do they include characteristics that will be useful and help him be successful? Why or why not?
