Modeling the enterprise
Introduction and overview
Enterprise Architecture (EA) frameworks such as TOGAF provides methods to create EA artefacts. The main aim being that an organization need to understand the impact of a technological change. One of these artifacts is the model (Kotusev, 2016). TOGAF specifies that architectural work leads to building blocks such as Catalogs, Matrices and Diagrams, these can be used to create a model of the enterprise. ArchiMate amongst others are used to create these models.
Your task in this assignment is to experience the modelling of a real-world problem using the ArchiMate language as well as the Architool.
Assignment Outcomes
The outcomes addressed in this assignment are as follows:
• Create a model across the 3 core levels of the ArchiMate meta-model
• Communicate a model in a narrative document
4 Assignment Instructions
Task outline:
Create a model using ArchiMate and the Architool and submit for assessment. This includes the following:
• Model the case study in ArchiTool using ArchiMate
• Write description of the model in a technical report
• Store model in ArchiTool format on your OneDrive and put the link in your technical report
• Submit your technical report for assessment
Case study:
Create a ArchiMate model to represent the rollout of the South African COVID immunization program. In general terms the rollout process includes two main phases:
• Register for vaccination
• Get the vaccination (first and second depending on the type)
Your task is to first get an understanding of how the rollout process is implemented from a technology perspective. Based on this understanding you need to model the process on the following three ArchiMate levels:
• Business layer
• Application layer
• Technology layer
5 Report layout and structure
Your report must consist of a narrative in plain English of the model that you created. First give an overview of the problem space (i.e. the situation being modelled) and then proceed to describe each modelling layer. You are welcome to insert diagrams as long as it can be easily read and supports the narrative. Structure your report according to recognized academic standards and write in a formal style. Avoid plagiarising any source and make use of appropriate citation and references in the HARVARD style. Your report must include an abstract, table of contents and reference list in addition to the main contents.
