My classmate wrote:

"I was stunned to read that in children between the ages of 10 and 14, suicide rates are the seventh leading cause of death and have "increased 70% since 1981" (Butcher, Mineka & Hooley, 2010, p. 263). In adolescents between 15 and 19, it is the third leading cause of death; not to mention suicide attempts which seem to increase year after year. Besides the reasons already discussed, like mood disorders or substance abuse, I would imagine the flood of hormones, the questions of self worth having to do with low self esteem and lack of life experience may be some additional factors making adolescents more susceptible to suicidal tendencies than adults. I agree that over time, a person learns about life, hopefully experiences some of the good things life has to offer and eventually matures. It also has to do with developing the coping skills needed to handle stress effectively. One question I would like to propose to the class is, do you believe the media may also be an influence on teens and young adults when it comes to suicide? And if so, how?"

My question is:

She broght up the topic of media influences, How would you see the media as involved here? Because some young celebrities are in the news after attempting or committing suicide? Are you suggesting a modeling effect?
