ASSIGNMENT OBJECTIVE:
For your second Illustrator assignment, you will be creating a logo using Illustrator tools and techniques we have learned including:• Placing an Image• Image Trace• Type on a Path• Direct Selection Tool• Fill and Stroke• Character Palette
ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS:
1. In Illustrator create a new document that is:• 5" x 5"2. Find an image on the internet that you want to trace for your logo• Simpler images will trace better than more complex images• Place the image in your Illustrator document you created and ensure that it is embedded (not linked to the original file)3. From your Layers Palette name this layer "Original Image"4. From your Layers Palette duplicate this layer and name this new layer "Traced Image"5. Lock your "Original Image" layer and make it invisible6. Your "Traced Image" layer will be the layer that you will use Image Trace to convert it into a path• You must expand your image to make it into a vector path• Once your image has been expanded, remove the original outline of your photo which will appear like a rectangular path, so you are only left with the image trace of the image you placed (not the frame which it was originally in)• Using the Direct Selection Tool (white arrow) alter the path you created of your image by adding different colour fills or strokes to make your illustration unique• You will get increased marks for creativity, showcasing your skills and your abilities in Illustrator to create a unique vector image7. From your Layers Palette create a new layer and name this layer "Original Type"8. Using the Curvature Tool create a unique path on your layer "Original Type"9. Create a slogan or name and write it on the path you just created using the Type on Path Tool10. From your Layers Palette duplicate your "Original Type" layer and name this new layer "Outlined Type"11. Lock your "Original Type" layer and make it invisible12. Your "Outlined Type" layer will be the layer that you will make into an outlined vector path13. Select your type on your "Outlined Type" layer and go to Type/Create Outlines• Using the Direct Selection Tool (white arrow) alter the path you created of your type by adding different colour fills or strokes to make your type unique• Move the points and alter the type to make it unique and different than the original font family/font style you chose• You will get increased marks for creativity, showcasing your skills and your abilities in Illustrator to create a unique vector image14. Save your final file as an Illustrator (.ai) file type15. Ensure that you submit your Illustrator (.ai) file with four layers• Original Image (locked and invisible)• Traced Image• Original Type (locked and invisible)• Outlined Type16. Save your final file as a JPEG (.jpg) file type
