Question

Successful communication is the key to mitigating mistakes and reducing potential liability. Studies show that poor communication can lead to errors, health disparities, decreased medical adherence, and negative patient experience (Karliner, 2018). A patient's primary language should be established upon patient check-in. The hospital has deployed a new interpretation system to help facilitate successful communication between providers and patients whose primary language is not English. Certified interpreters are available upon request via this interpretation system that is readily available in all rooms. Utilizing this system will help reduce compliance errors that may lead to increased hospital stay and readmissions, unnecessary investigations, and the possibility of malpractice. It will also help improve treatment outcomes, patient experience, and satisfaction (Habib et al, 2023). If you have not already participated in the training for this program, please do so as it will greatly reduce the chances of any miscommunication between you and your patients.
