It is the role of the school counselor to help recognize mental health and behavioral disorders when working with students. It is important to understand what interventions and treatments are available for students who exhibit a mental health or behavior problem disorder.
For this assignment, select three mental health and/or behavioral disorders that are prevalent in adolescents. Examples include attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, anxiety, depression, self-injury, eating disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, mood disorder, and bipolar.
Generate a slide digital presentation for middle or secondary school faculty and staff. This presentation will be related to the disorders,
1. Characteristics of the disorder and how the disorder is manifested.
2. The warning signs of students dealing with a mental health or behavioral disorder.
3. Risk factors that might increase a student's potential for developing a mental health or behavioral disorder (e.g., family medical history, personality, and life experiences).
4. Identify cultural considerations and implications specific to the disorder.
5. Common interventions and evidence-based treatments that a school, teacher, school counselor, district staff, family members, or an outside agency can provide to students at risk for mental health or behavioral disorders.
