Project Aims: Design and material selection for tribological applications of a thrust ball bearing for a Rolls-Royce Trent 800 turbofan engine shaft.

Objectives:
To examine relevant literature on bearing design and material selection.
To discuss tribological applications of bearings in mechanical systems.
To design a thrust ball bearing to withstand axial loads in a Rolls-Royce turbofan engine.
To select an optimal material for (iii) to minimize wear, withstand high temperatures, pressure and maximize fatigue life.
