Question: Jane, a thirty-three-year-old, has expressed concern about the possibility of breast disease. Her family history includes a maternal aunt who was diagnosed with invasive breast cancer at the age of forty-eight. Additionally, Jane's mother, who is sixty-two years old, has undergone several biopsies for suspicious breast lesions. These lesions were diagnosed as benign cysts and fibroadenomas. To address her concerns, Jane practices regular breast self-examination and has opted for yearly mammography since the age of thirty. She also underwent testing for BRCA1 and BRCA2, which came back negative. A recent mammogram showed no abnormalities except for mild fibrocystic disease.
