Question

Marcus Peters, 5 years old; post-tonsillectomy. Marcus had a tonsillectomy yesterday. His parents bring him to the ER concerned that he is too sleepy. When he is awake he will consume small amounts of liquids but about 30 minutes ago vomited up blood after eating half of a Popsicle. He then fell asleep again. His parents are not sure what to expect and are worried that something is wrong. They are having a terrible time getting him to take his medications bc he is so sleepy and are worried he has a post-op infection. Using a Wong Baker pain scale he indicates his pain is a 5-6/10.

PMH negative. He is taking Tylenol with Codeine. He is an otherwise healthy 5 year old male child with normal development. Parents are educated and show an appropriate level of concern.
