Makeshift child's swing: Child's weight, magnitude of force, maximum angle
A makeshift swing is constructed by making a loop in one end of a rope and tying the other end to a tree limb. A child is sitting in the loop with the rope hanging vertically when the child's father pulls on the child with a horizontal force and displaces the child to one side. Just before the child is released from rest, the rope makes an angle of 11o with the vertical and the tension in the rope is 270 N.
(a) How much does the child weigh?
(b) What is the magnitude of the (horizontal) force of the father on the child just before the child is released?
(c) If the maximum horizontal force the father can exert on the child is 87 N, what is the maximum angle with the vertical the rope can make while the father is pulling horizontally?
If John Glenn weighed 640 N on the Earth's surface, i) how much would be having weighed if his Mercury spacecraft had (hypothetically) remained at twice the distance from the center of the earth? ii) Why is it said that an astronaut is never truly..
A 50 kg block and a 100kg block are connected by string. the pulley is frictionless and of negligible mass. the coefficient of kinetic friction between the 50kg block and incline is 0.250. find the change in the kinetic energy of the 50kg block as..
