Leadership is a learned behavior that becomes unconscious and automatic over time. However, there are some attitudes a leader can make a part of his or her routine in order to be successful. Leaders need to make others feel safe to speak up. Also, they need to be expert decision makers. They are great communicators, always reminding their colleagues and subordinates of the organization's core values and mission statement. Leaders challenge people to think, pushing people to get out of their comfort zone and give the best of themselves. Successful leaders lead by example, practicing what they preach and being mindful of their actions.
In the link attached above, they explain the leadership process in mid-management in a company. Some of the leaders characteristics the mention are as follow: leaders need to build positive working relationships and networks based on transparency and integrity; and they need to identify a shared purpose and work towards it. The video shows three levels of management, the top manager, the middle managers and the employees. They focus specifically in the middle managers and some techniques they can apply to succeed.
Leaders that practice the above techniques are always going to be successful, respected and followed for the employees. They need to make this techniques part of their everyday conduct. Once the attitudes are learned and adopted there will be no way of stopping them from succeeding.
