1. Section 4 presents the Protozoans (means "first animal-like cells") that are classified according to how they move (i.e. motility) - pseudopods, cilia, flagella or vectors.

(A) Flagellates - move using Flagella. List the major characteristics of each of these:

· Giardia lamblia

(B) Apicomplexans - require vectors to move them around, like mosquitos. List the major characteristics of each of these:

· Plasmodium species (4 of them)

· Toxoplasma gondii

(C) Pseudomonads - move by using "false feet" - extensions of the cell membrane. List the major characteristics of this species:

· Entamoeba histolytica

(D) Ciliates - move cilia in one direction so water current flows across their surface. List the major characteristics of this species, the only human pathogen this group:

· Balantidium coli
