Case Scenario: Edward (2 years) comes from an Aboriginal family and has two older siblings, Rachel (6 years) and Toby (9 years). Edward attends preschool 2 days a week. He is outgoing with a great sense of humour and is excited to participate in all experiences at the centre. During Covid Leo (Edward's father) lost his restaurant business due to ongoing closures. This has been a very difficult time for the family. Their mother Lucy confided in one of the educators that Leo has started drinking and gambling and this has impacted his family greatly. Lucy disclosed that Leo yells at the children and herself and often sends the children to bed early, sometimes without dinner. Lucy feels she can't step in and feed the children because it makes him angrier. Due to lockdown Lucy said she is feeling very isolated from friends and family and finding it difficult to home-school her other two children whilst caring for her youngest child Edward. In the last month you have noticed Edward has become very withdrawn and is very clingy with educators and cries easily which is uncharacteristic for him.
