Project - EduStream Phase
Requirement
Proven expertise in developing Web server software
Proven expertise in implementing Web server software
They have the bulk of the system already (COTS)
Proven experience in linking Web server to Client DB
Project Objectives
• List measurable project objectives (this should be a high-level statement that then links down to the Business Acceptance)
Project Scope Description
• Progressively elaborate these so they can be aligned to the deliverables (e.g. think in large building blocks)
• Make sure that this reflects/builds on the Project Charter
Hardware
• List all hardware elements that will be required (include Servers, Client Equipment, Network Equipment, Security, etc. - make sure that this aligns to other deliverables)
Software/Application (Application, Interfaces & Presentation)
• List any software applications that will be required to be delivered (include COTS/Bespoke/Tailored Software/ Environments) - Provide as much detail as necessary for clarity.
Data Storage, Replication & Access
• List any databases/data structural elements that will be deliverables and outline rough sizes, locations, replication issues, etc.)
Networking
• List any LAN/WAN/Network infrastructure deliverables (make sure that this addresses bandwidth requirements and is closely connected with security) - As necessary link to OSI Levels 1-7 to ensure that all key issues are covered.
• Make sure that this links into security issues.
• Where appropriate list who will be providing the network connectivity (as this can become a major issue involving third parties)
Security
• List any security deliverables (include information on hardware security, physical security, data security, network security, etc.) - Include document security in the documentation sections as necessary
Infrastructure
• List any specific infrastructure that will be needed (e.g. Data Centres, Data Rooms, buildings, etc.)
Other • List anything else that may be a technical deliverable
Services
• List any services that will need to be provided during the project (include internal/external as necessary) - Include issues such as consulting, training, etc.
Documentation
• List any documentation that will be required as deliverables including key planning, design, or user documents
• Where necessary include Knowledge Management issues, and take into account hardware, networking, software requirements necessary to implement this
WORK BREAKDOWN - HIGH LEVEL OVERVIEW
1. The Work Stream refers to the high-level description for the groups of tasks that are necessary to meet the objectives. For example, this would include reference to big chunks of the requirements such as ‘Database Delivery', ‘Application Development', ‘Hardware Procurement', ‘Software Procurement', ‘System Integration', etc. Don't forget to have Work Streams for Project Management, Documentation, Training and the provision of other services.
2. The Work Stream Element/Work Package column will provide descriptors for specific groups of tasks that will be required to achieve the activities required for that Work Stream.
3. In the Types of Resources Required, list any cash, and hard or soft resources that will be needed to complete the tasks. Link this to the information in the Amount of Resources required.
4. Make sure that there are clear responsibilities listed for each task.
5. This type of document is only designed to go down to two levels of detail (e.g. Workstream and high-level groupings of information for the Elements). You can go down to lower levels by indenting Work Stream Elements/Work Packages in the column, so the hierarchical structure becomes clear.
