Assignment: Team project

A new, simple, lightweight drone quadcopter needs to be designed with a total minimal weight and a maximum payload and as many standard parts as possible, including fasteners. The rotating blades have an input shaft of 5 mm in diameter and rotate at 2000 rpm. The drone is electrically driven and has a battery pack located at the center. The radius each shaft and the center of the quadcopter should be between 150mm - 300 mm and the drone should have landing skids on which to support itself.

The weight of the drone will have to be balanced between the rotor blades to ensure stability. The rotor blades and motors will have to be imported from a manufacturer's catalog, found online or physically. All rotating or electrical elements are exposed to an outside  environment must be protected using appropriate seals.

The interior of the drone should be accessible for repair or maintenance. Hence a removal cover-plate or plates must be incorporated in the design.

Scope of work:

1. Design the quadcopter drone.

2. Complete the assembly drawing for the drone including the partlist.

3. Carry out a detail drawing of a major component of the drone with proper dimensions, limits and fits, geometrical tolerances and surface finish.

4. Write a brief report on the design having the following heading: Abstract, Introduction and Literature survey, Design, Graduate attribute (team work, impact of engineering on society and the environment), Conclusions, Recommendations and References. Maximum of 10 pages of main text.

5. Please submit work in PDF format and hand in on Moodle website. Hand drawn work may be scanned, but not photographed.
