Tomas Bond, the 56-year-old male, was brought to the emergency department by the paramedics after being called by his wife. His wife found him unconscious on the floor beside the bed in the morning. The left side of his body was flaccid and his face and mouth drooped on the left. In the emergency room his vital signs were:
Blood pressure (BP) 160/90 mm Hg
Heart rate (HR) 88 beats per minute
Respiratory rate (RR) 16, deep and stertorous
Temperature 37.7 degrees Celcius
Weight 225 lbs
Funduscopic examination revealed papilledema.
Tomas's wife explained that her husband owned and managed a restaurant. She said he had no previous medical problems and no known allergies. On the morning of admission, her husband was getting out of bed when he became unconscious and fell on the bedroom floor.
