MICRO - MEZZO - MACRO SOCIAL WORK PRACTICE EXERCISE:
The purpose of this assignment is for you to analyze a problem at three large system levels to establish an appropriate goal at each level, identify the target and action for each level, and think about ways to get an action system actively involved. Social workers must address problems from all levels no matter what practice setting they may work in to influence the clients we serve. You complete both parts of this assignment using the template provided below (typed and average length 1-2 pages):
Part 1: Define each area of practice
• Micro practice
• Mezzp practice
• Macro practice
Part 2: Review the client case provided and then identify potential interventions strategies to utilize to address the presented problem on all three levels of practice .
You are a social worker in a local homeless shelter You have a couple that present for services that has been evicted from their apartment and do not have the financial resources to pay the deposits to secure a new apartment at this time. They have stayed in a hotel room the last two nights, but have cannot afford another night. They have a 2-year-old daughter. Your program has openings for shelter, but you do not have family rooms so they couple will have to separate so the mother/child will stay in one shelter and the dad will stay in the men's shelter This creates a great deal of stress as the couple is overwhelmed by the situation and now will not have each other to provide support.
As the social worker, think about how you might help this client in all 3 levels of social work practice:
• Micro (them individually)
• Mezzo (as a couple, family or the shelter)
• Macro (policy or organization)
