Two of the proxy wars that are the most famous and significant are the Korean War and the Vietnam War (though neither was truly a "war," since war was never officially declared in either instance). One was considered a qualified success (even if it was resolved in an uneasy armistice), the other an unequivocal failure. How can we compare these two conflicts? What were their causes?
