Effective Study Skills are the Sole Foundation of a sound education

Word count - 585

Effective study skills which focuses upon knowledge development and refined abilities form the sole foundation for the process of learning (Adams et.al, 1994). Education and learning effectively is a path which steers the direction of future generation towards skills, values and believes (Ley et.al, 2001) amalgamated with study and educational skills. The diverse environments and numerous dimensions of study skills (Semones, 1991) across various positive advantages highlight a framework for sound education system.
The process and way of learning blended with an effective strategy to seamlessly learn contemporary theories and information are formulated according to a set organization and schedule.

Various innovative techniques and tact for memorizing, retaining and understanding the key concepts (Price et.al, 2007) included in sound education are used at certain times. Such an example is of Mnemonics which is used to recall the information and polish the reading skills along with refining and sharpening the concentration techniques. Quick and effective note taking (Robinson, 1941)is also another creative technique to boost the level of sound education.

The main elements of sound education are immense understanding and further practical application of the skills learned. Both these phases are critical in order to promote sound education principles. A deep insight into the core concepts and thereby effective implementation into the practical life are the two wheels of the ride. Ability and skills cater to two different aspects of learning (Devine, 1987) wherein students who have ability may not perform exceptionally well due to lack of effective study and learning skills. The literal meaning of effective as applied in the field of learning is to prioritize the tasks and to empower a keen focus over urgent ones. Being efficient is depicted as working hard, in an organized manner, but being effective is to put all the efforts and harness all the energies for critically important tasks first. The positivity of such refined learning skills lead to a fall in the curve of failures (Zimmerman, 1998).

The present knowledge is garnered with acquired knowledge and synthesized effectively to be put into application in the real life scenarios to be able to vision and forecast the future of sound education. Study skills are not limited towards academic or theoretical knowledge but it makes a student apply these theories into the practical and real life and thereby giving a long term benefit (Hoover, 1995) for every individual. Study skills are a mixture of plethora of attributes like organizing, controlling, learning and maintaining which aids in every phase in the long run of the life may it be an interview or day to day chores which require analytical skills.

Study skills are sometimes a natural gift which is inherent from birth and some other times it is developed with the course of time and understanding (Gadzella, 1987) which adds onto the pages in the book of experience. Practice makes a man perfect, and hence skills required to gain a command over sound education is also gained via practicing and applying it into the real life situations.

The study skills are categorized into some main arenas of learning like active listening, critical and reflective thinking, analytical bend of mind, presentation qualities, reading and writing skills, research and evaluation, and some techniques of time and resource management (Wingate, 2006). For a perfect balance of study skills and sound education there is a need of both natural skills and acquired traits with the help of practical application. The solid foundation of sound education is instilled in the roots of effective study skills.
