Assignment: Overview: For this assignment, you will describe the various types of health information exchange models. After reading assigned readings for this module and the case study document, you will be able to recommend the most appropriate HIE model for the case study organization and defend your choice. Journals in this course are private between student and instructor.

Prompt: After reviewing the case study document and assigned reading for this module, address the following as if you were the health information manager:

Facilities are required to report certain measures to Medicare under the Promoting Interoperability Program. Complete an analysis of the HIE models that would be applicable to the Manchester Health Access Network (MHAN) and recommend strategies for how this facility can ensure it will meet the Promoting Interoperability Program standards.

Your analysis should include the following:

• Compare different types of models (centralized, decentralized/federated, hybrid) and exchanges (directed, query-based, or consumer-mediated) that would be applicable to MHAN's network. In your comparison, consider elements such as the differentiation of the cost, quality/efficiency, time to implement, and security of each model and exchange.

• Justify the type of HIE model that you would choose for MHAN. Defend your decision based on evidence found in your comparison of models and explain why this would be the best model for your network.

• Justify the type of HIE exchange that you would choose for MHAN. Defend your decision based on evidence found in your comparison of exchanges and explain why this would be the best model for your network.

• Recommend strategies for how this facility can ensure it will meet the Promoting Interoperability Program standards using the chosen model and exchange.
