Question
Journal reflection about introducing social psychology and the self in a social world.
Journal Types that must be used:
1. Questioning: Focused on inquiry - the asking and refinement of questions. They can be answered or merely 'wondered about.' You might pose a question you are curious about, write some background as to why, how the information could be of benefit to you or your situation. You could pose an answer to your question even if you don't really know if it is valid.
2. Metacognitive: Focused on thinking about thinking. You are writing about your thinking- tendencies, changes in thinking over time, cognitive blind spots, etc. Reflect on yourself and the knowledge about yourself. Wonder why you do things, could they be related to the information/concept from the chapter you are reading.
3. Change: All learning should result in personal and social change. This type frames the writing for learning in terms of change. How has your knowledge changed after the chapter - how it is now more complete or useful. Changing your own behavior as the result of your learning is another possible approach. That is, how is or should your own inclinations or skills or general potential different post-chapter. You can also reflect on how other knowledge (about other topics, for example) as changed after encountering new data or 'finishing' a learning experience of some kind. Provide an example of this change or potential change.
4. Transfer: Focuses on transferring learning to new and unfamiliar circumstances. If you learn about hindsight bias, a Transfer Journal would allow you to consider how that knowledge might be used, how it might transfer to current events, or how you have experienced it yourself. It could also focus on transfer from within the classroom to outside the classroom, making explicit the application of academic and content knowledge in your own life.
