Assignment:
A) Which of the following metabolic pathways: aerobic respiration, anaerobic respiration, aerobic chemolithotrophy, and anaerobic chemolithotrophy could be used to carry out the H2S to sulfur reaction? Remember, think strictly theoretically. You need to think about whether each of these reactions can oxidize or reduce inorganic materials.
Note: You must indicate ALL metabolic pathways that could be used.
B) For each of the pathways selected in (c), describe exactly how sulfur will be formed by answering the following:
1) Is the initial electron donor (where the electrons are taken from) organic or inorganic?
2) Which of the pathways, glycolysis, TCA, electron transport, chemolithotrophy, will be used to obtain the electrons (all that apply in each selected pathway)?
3) Is the final electron acceptor organic or inorganic?
