Striving to do what they think is best, the mothers believe in the cry it out method at nap and bed time. The parents believe that encouraging Josefina to put herself to sleep supports her self-regulation skills and decreases dependency on others.

Josefina's parents partnered with her teachers to continue the cry it out method while at childcare. The mothers and teachers believe this will provide consistency at nap time. The teachers are especially willing to use this method as they know they cannot hold or rock multiple babies to sleep at the same time.

In both settings, Josefina cries for almost an hour before falling asleep.
