Work and I/O Psychology are important because work gives you sense of accomplishment and the feeling that you are contributing to soicety; I/O Psychology helps to validate that. I/O Psychology teaches the importance of employer and employee intereactions within the work place and how a positive work environment makes for a healthy personal life. We can think of I/O Psychology as being a combination of knowledge and skills that can be applied in a wide diversity of settings rather than just in the arena of traditional work (Landy & Conte, 2013, p.7). Cultural diversity is also important within the work and the field of I/O Psychology because, culture emphasizes the sharing of meanings and intrepertations (Landy&Conte, 2013, p.29). When hiring minorities in an organization it helps to increase awareness about cultural traditions. This is why the recognition of cultures in the field of I/O Psychology plays an important role.
