Question

PBIS can be beneficial and help students throughout the building. However there can be some issues when implementing PBIS within the school building. One of the issues is the relationships between the school staff and the student's family. If there is not a good relationship and teamwork between the school and the student's family, It will affect the PBIS plan in a negative way. According to the text, " Families are key players in the process of functional assessment and in the development and success of behavioral intervention plans. Parents and families contribute a perspective on the child that is unique and exclusive to them and their role as the child's parents," (Wheeler & Richey, 2018). The family helps the plan be successful by providing important information and reinforcing the plan at home. Without this support the plan will not work. another issue is not having staff the is properly trained for PBIS. Initially teachers may have taken a course or two in behavior management. It is important that teachers and administrators continue learning about PBIS systems in order to have a successful PBIS plan in place. This is important to the there is a school-wide system implemented across the building. Also to keep all the Behavior management strategies current with teachers as they are implementing the school-wide plan. The text states, " One of the most important elements promoting the use of PBIS is the training of educational professionals at the in-service and preservice levels. Such training includes preservice teachers who are in the initial stages of professional preparation and professionals who are already on the job working as teachers. At present, most teacher training programs allot one course within the curriculum devoted to behavior management or classroom management issues," ( Wheeler and Richey, 2018).

The PBIS is continually being evaluated, revised and planned within the building. there are numerous meetings for the PBIS team throughout the school year to ensure the plan is continuing to go well. Each student's initialized PBIS plan is continually having data being collected. The students are also evaluated throughout the school year to ensure that the plan is working as well.
