Assignment instructions
In assignment two, as a group, you analysed a complex case study - analysing the challenges at play using a cultural dimensions lens.
In this assignment you are to select a real-life news story, involving a multilateral (multi-country or multi-culture) incident, negotiation, or collaboration. You will need to undertake several activities in relation to this case, so it is important that there are multiple, reputable media sources that discuss the issue.
In week nine or ten of class, during in-person/online class, you MUST provide a briefing to your tutor regarding what complex, real life news story you have selected. Once approved, you need to undertake the following steps:
In no more than 300 words, summarise the issue and the complexity it creates for each multilateral party.
In 400-500 words per country/culture, critically analyse the cultural dimensions at play for each of the multilateral partners, i.e. what are the defining features of these cultures? In addition to applying Hofstede's model, or another cultural dimensions model to your analysis of the defining features, please highlight any other significant cultural elements at play in relation to each of the partners. Where possible, draw from relevant, quality, academic business scholarship to support claims you may have about each culture/country (at least five quality references across the ~1500 words). Utilising a Venn diagram or alternative relational tool, highlight the similarities and differences shared by the different multilateral partners in relation to the issue - i.e. what are the cultural similarities and differences between each multilateral member? Label this graphic as Figure 1. Ensure alignment between your analysis in step 2 and Figure 1 by making reference to the figure in your discussion.
In 400-800 words deliberate on how the issue can be overcome, resolved or progressed. In so doing, suggest which elements are most salient, and the steps necessary to resolve these by each multilateral member. Your assertions in this section need to be supported with relevant, scholarly academic material (at least three quality references), and you may like to apply relevant cross-cultural and/or dispute resolution frameworks.
