This is an opportunity to express your social work view on a particular policy matter and advocate for social change, consistent with the social work profession's policy position. You will compose a one-page letter to a local or state legislator from the district in which you reside.

In your letter, you will urge their continued pursuit, consideration, and action on a specific bill or policy - or the opposite if you are against the bill or policy's passage.

Identify yourself and your relationship to the selected legislator/policymaker as a constituent or private citizen (not as a Kent School student). Add any special knowledge you may have on this bill/policy/issue of interest. Cite evidence and advocate persuasively for your position. The letter should be one-page using proper letter format.

1. Double check that your letter is addressed to a local or state legislator and not someone who represents your state in Congress (Washington D.C.)

2. Make sure that the bill/policy you select makes sense. If your letter is addressed to a state senator, do not write about a federal/national bill. If your letter is addressed to your local/city representative, do not explain about an issue impacting another region in your state.

3. Make sure to identify the bill/policy.
