Critical Thinking
On this course you are encouraged to undertake a process of critical thinking or thinking independently.
The key features of CT are as follows:
• Drawing conclusions that are justified by observation and information
• Developing and advocating a position on an issue and being able to defend that position
• Utilizing one's own ideas
• Evaluating sources of information and incorporating a body of knowledge
• Looking beyond factual information and considering consequences and implications
• Consider a variety of viewpoints
• Remain open to all alternative interpretations
• Accept any evidence or information that provides a higher quality explanation
• Avoid rejecting views that are unpopular
• Recognize that some ideas strongly held by a group can be distorted or misleading
• Provide understanding by conveying meaning and interpretation often in the form of examples
• Provide a conceptual map of a complex situation that clearly identifies the variables, connections and patterns
• Can transfer the process of CT from one situation to another different situation
DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME CRITERIA
Your DP should address the following issues and possess these characteristics:
1. It should clearly identify who you are and whether you have employment. The nature of any job should be clearly explained. You should keep this information anonymous.
I work as an HR officer in Planning section
2. You need to use the data you have about yourself from the Leadership questionnaire namely focused drive, emotional intelligence, enabling trust, conceptual thinking and systems thinking (not the competencies), together with the data from the FIRO B questionnaire.
3. The DP should be formatted to clearly indicate your development needs for any professional workplace by identifying what your strength and needs are as a result of the information from these questionnaires. You will need to formulate a set of smart objectives to be evaluated at item 6.
4. You will then need to relate your needs to a series of likely resources that will allow you to develop additional knowledge and skills. Such resources could be training courses, other institutions or organisations, other people, activities, events, travel, secondment or internships.
5. The DP should specify the timetabling for all activities, location and potential cost estimate.
6. You need to provide tools and techniques of evaluation to answer the question- how will I know my DP has achieved its objectives?
