Case: In this discussion topic, examine and investigate some of the issues associated with conflicting positions on climate change.
In Earle (2021), there is a list of arguments that climate change skeptics still use to counter the argument that climate change is not occurring as presented by scientists from the IPCC (p. 14).
These include:
The climate has always changed.
Carbon dioxide levels are too low to make a difference.
Climate models are not accurate or reliable.
There isn't consensus amongst climate scientists.
A warmer climate might be a good thing.

These views continue to permeate some discussion circles (if you are like me, perhaps you hear them at even your family holiday meals or from neighbours!). With the one-sided nature of social media, some people's reluctance to make big change in their lives for the betterment of the planet, and growing distrust of government and science, I think we are seeing more arguments arise against climate change principles, despite that much of climate change science has a solid foundation.
In this discussion topic, consider what you have learned about the science of climate change, the challenges and successes of modelling and making predictions, as well as some of the logical fallacies associated with various scientific points.
Identify one (1) argument that you think runs counter to scientific evidence. You may take your argument from the list above or one of the websites listed, or locate a source on your own (current news, another website, or social media post).
Communicate the following in your discussion:
What is the argument or view that you think is false? Summarize in one sentence.
