The following are scenarios involving victims of crime. Identify the theories of victimization found in each scenario. Explain how these theories apply to each scenario. (What did the victim do to contribute to their own victimization?)

APA format, including a cover page, is not required for this assignment.

There is no minimum length. Just be sure to identify the theories and tell me how they apply.

1. John Smith, a college student, was the victim of a theft. John lives in an apartment complex. In addition to college students, several known criminals and a large number of teenage boys live there. These people tend to congregate in the poorly lit parking lot at night. They don't have anything else to do, as employments prospects are made slim by their history or age.

The police department does not patrol this apartment complex very often.

On the night in question, John accidently left his car unlocked. His iPhone 6 was left on the front seat. A backpack containing John's textbooks was in the back seat. All of these items were in plain view from the outside of the car.

2. Tom Davis, another college student, was assaulted in a bar last Tuesday night. Tom is generally known as an obnoxious person. Others find his personality to be abrasive.

On the night of the assault, Tom went to a bar known for trouble. The police are constantly being called there for fights and assaults. In addition to college students, the bar is frequented by a group of locals, who do not like college students.

Tom had eight shots of liquor and ten draft beers within a few hours. As he became intoxicated, Tom started taunting the locals. He called them "townies" and "hillbillies." They tried to ignore Tom, but he became more and more aggressive.

When Tom left, the group he had been taunting followed him to a dark alley. He was assaulted and received serious injuries.

3. Jake Watson is a low level drug dealer. He moved into the apartment complex where John Smith lives. This complex is known to be inhabited by a criminal element and is not well patrolled by the local police department. Jake lives alone and doesn't have any friends in the apartment complex. He tends to forget to lock his door when he goes to bed.

Jake is causing real problems for the other drug dealers in the apartment complex. He sells his drugs at a reduced price, drawing customers away from the other dealers. Jake's robust business earns him a sizeable income, which he is known to keep in a coffee can in his kitchen.

One night, someone enters Jake's apartment and kills him. Before they leave, the criminal steals the money in the coffee can.

4. Lisa Hook is a 19-year-old woman. She is single and likes to go out with her friends on the weekends. Unfortunately, Lisa tends to drink to excess. She often gets drunk and causes a scene. Her friends sometimes get tired of Lisa and leave her at the bar.

Last weekend, Lisa went to the same incident prone bar as Tom Davis. She drank all night long. A few men approached Lisa, but she was extremely rude to them.

Every time Lisa went to the dance floor or the bathroom, she left her drink unattended. Her friends had already left, so there was no one to watch the drinks.

At bar closing time, Lisa realized that she lost her purse. Without any money or friends, Lisa didn't have a ride home. As she started to walk, Lisa was approached by one of the men who tried to talk to her in the bar. He offered her a ride home and Lisa accepted.
The next morning, Lisa wakes up in a strange place and realizes that she has been sexually assaulted.
