Aim of assessment
The aim of this assessment task is to provide students with the opportunity to reflect on their understanding of the health needs among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples in Australia. This task also enables students to explore and analyse how social issues and social determinants of health are linked to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People's health and wellbeing.
Assessment Details
You are required to choose an Indigenous led /co-designed program or service, which is bringing about positive health outcomes or potential health benefits for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. You can choose ONE (1) of the programs or services from the list below.
- Early Years Support (from Secretariat of National Aboriginal and Islander Child Care -SNAICC)
- Earbus Foundation of Western Australia
- Our Mob and Cancer -Breast cancer
In your reflection you will need to:
- Identify the key components of your chosen Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples led health program or service and explain why it is an important initiative for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.
- Critically analyse how this program is specifically tailored to meet the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples- Critically discuss the impact(s) of this program on the health outcomes of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
People
- Critically reflect how has this learning activity changed your understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People's health and wellbeing and in what way can you apply this knowledge in your clinical practice?
Assessment Instructions
To prepare and write Assessment 2 effectively, you should ensure that your reflection is:
- Well researched with reference to academic literature. You must refer to a minimum eight (8) relevant and current sources to support your ideas including articles from peer reviewed journals identified from relevant electronic databases such as CINAHL and MEDLINE, recommended textbooks or relevant government documents.
Three of your provided references must be published within the past 5 years.
The reflection should be logically structured and organised following the provided structure and format:
- Introduction, a main body and a conclusion
- In-text references to acknowledge all the sources of information
- Reference list
- Use APA (7th ed.) referencing style guide
