Case study Task: Sarah is a 32 year old accounting executive who recently married her partner of 6 years, Austin. Sarah and Austin have decided they would like to try for a baby. Sarah has concerns around her current vaping habit. While she is a 'social vaper' she tends to increase her consumption when she becomes stressed. Work is a significant source of stress, and she has recently been given a higher duties role. She has come to see the health care professional (HCP) working in a health and well- being centre that supports individuals that are planning for change in their lifestyle. Sarah is currently in the contemplation stage (stage 2) of the transtheoretical model of change as assessed by the Health care professional. Building a therapeutic relationship will be the basis of the health care professionals relationship with Sarah to progress her to the maintenance stage (stage 5).

You will need to;

a) Consider Maslows hierarchy of needs and how Sarah's current life stage fits into this psychological model.

b) Identify one key element of the Spirit of MI and describe how the HCP will cse this to elicit Sarah's reasons for wanting to change

c) Identify and explain the Motivational Interviewing techniques the HCP will use to support Sarah to the Preparation Stage (considering her use of vapes) and how this will progress her to the Action Stage.

d) Describe the new behaviours Sarah would need to engage in to be successful in the Action Stage and to achieve improved health outcomes long term and to reach Maintenance.

e) Discuss the role of resilience in Sarah's journey to reduce and potentially cease her vaping use.
