Civility Case Study,
Situation: A nursing colleague of yours approaches you looking sad and dejected. Her shoulders are down and she appears tearful. When asked what is wrong, she replies that she had just met with her supervisor to discuss her goal to pursue a management/leadership position within the healthcare facility. She had diligently attended workshops, worked with a mentor, regularly read research articles regarding leadership and management strategies and best practices. She also has be a member of several PI teams, and RCA teams and serves on hospital committees. She felt that she was ready to move into a leadership/management position. However, when she met with her supervisor, the supervisor laughed at her and asked her if "she was kidding". When she again explained how she had taken proactive steps to hone her leadership/management skills, her supervisor again laughed, shaking her head, and stated, "this will not happen on my watch"
