Your task
You are part of a working party tasked with advising Moka (your client) in relation to their current governance, accounting and reporting, performance management, and remuneration practices.
Your General Manager
Your lecturer is your team's General Manager throughout this task and will:
Assign parts between your team is an agreement cannot be reached (refer below);
Be available for consultation of up to 1 1/2 minutes per team member during the task (note - they are not able to answer the questions for you but may provide general feedback on approach or sufficiency). It is recommended that you use this resource wisely.
Allocation of case study parts
Each team member is required to take responsibility for, and present one section of the assigned case study. This will ideally be agreed upon. If a dispute persists, your lecturer will assign sections to your group.
Where your team has four members, each of Parts A, B, C & D are to be assigned to different members - each of which requires 3 slides to suitably cover your analysis. The team is collectively responsible for a background slide and a references slide.
Where your team has three members, each of Parts B, C & D are to be assigned to different members - each of which requires 3 slides to suitably cover your analysis. The team is collectively responsible for a background slide and a references slide.
Slide deck
All submissions must be made by editing and populating the pre-formatted slides provided. If you cannot fit your key points adequately on your slide, you will need to rephrase.
Presentation
As the second part of this task requires a short presentation in Week 6, it is recommended that you retain notes as detailed as necessary to ensure that you can advise your client adequately. These notes are not required to be submitted. Remember, you only have 2 ½ minutes per person to present your analysis.
The team member assigned Part A is permitted 1 additional minute to briefly introduce the client and its background information. The coverage of the background is for the audience's benefit and does not form part of your assessment.
*PART A
Identify any specific issues with how the Code of Ethics is currently applied including any concerns about the arrangement involving Legrande Holdings Pty Ltd.
Outline the strengths and weaknesses (or absence) of other governance mechanisms evident in the case study, highlighting the likely consequences of these strengths and weaknesses.
Based on the above, recommend appropriate changes in governance mechanisms for Moka.
PART B
Identify any specific issues with Moka's current accounting practices relating to revenue recognition and receivables management.
Outline any other strengths and weaknesses with Moka's current accounting practices highlighting possible motivations and consequences.
Based on the above, recommend appropriate changes in accounting and reporting practices for Moka.
PART C
Identify any specific issues with the current use of revenue growth as a financial performance measure including an evaluation of its alignment with Moka's strategic priorities.
Outline other strengths and weaknesses with current performance measurement highlighting the likely behavioural and stakeholder consequences.
Based on the above, recommend appropriate performance measures that would align well with Moka's strategy and values.
PART D
Identify any specific issues with the current contractual arrangements of Suzy and Emil and their involvement in Moka's performance management processes.
Outline other strengths and weaknesses with current remuneration, hiring or termination practices highlighting the likely consequences.
Based on the above, recommend appropriate changes in remuneration practice for Moka.
