Task overview

For this assessment task, you will complete 2 parts by designing a 1000-word lesson plan and an 8-minute video presentation Uploaded to YouTube as UNLISTED and the link placed at the top of the lesson plan or on the cover page in the Assignment to justify your teaching decisions. Your lesson plan will be designed for a specific year level and learning area, incorporating explicit instruction and inclusive teaching strategies that support diverse learners. No AI shortcuts — Get genuine assignment help from experienced, real tutors.

Part A:
You will create a detailed 1-hour lesson plan using the SCU Lesson Plan Template (available in Blackboard under Assessment 2).

Refer to Workshop 6 to engage with the video and activity. This is an important foundation in planning your learning experience. As you plan, consider cognitive load, memory and
novice/expert learners.

To develop your lesson plan:

Select a year level and learning area (e.g., primary literacy, secondary mathematics).

Use the SCU Lesson Plan Template to structure your plan effectively.

Ensure curriculum alignment by incorporating learning outcomes from the NSW syllabus or Australian Curriculum.

Outline very clearly, your use of explicit teaching, modelling and scaffolding strategies, clear learning intentions and success criteria.
Include a brief description of behaviour management strategies you will employ in this lesson.

Embed the GC's literacy, numeracy and the use of ICT in your plan.

Identify two diverse learners from different categories (e.g., an EAL/D student and a student with autism) and include differentiation strategies to support their learning
Plan formative assessment techniques that align with the lesson objectives and provide meaningful feedback.

Part B:
In your 8-minute video presentation, Uploaded to YouTube as UNLISTED and the link placed at the top of the lesson plan or on the cover page in the Assignment, you will discuss how you included explicit teaching etc. (see below) in the lesson plan. Importantly, you must justify the teaching, differentiation, and assessment strategies in your lesson plan. Your explanation should focus on why these strategies are effective for the content, year level, and diverse learners. Your presentation must include visuals of your lesson plan and be supported by relevant images and academic references.

The following topics must also be discussed in the video presentation:
Why explicit teaching is a quality instruction in reducing the need for further intervention (how your knowledge of learner development and schema development prevents cognitive load). Can you identify any neuromyths in the plan? How can these be avoided?
How ICT was used ethically in this lesson.

Explain how the classroom was organised for this lesson and how this enabled student participation, well-being and safety.
How community/parents/carers could be involved in this lesson.

Identify an area of professional development that you could pursue following your reflection on this lesson.

Diverse Learners Focus (differentiation):
You must select two students from different diverse learning categories and explain how your lesson is designed to support them. Choose from the following:
EAL/D students (English as an Additional Language or Dialect)

Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander students

Students with hearing impairments

Gifted students requiring extension (GATT)

Students with expressive or receptive language disorders

Students with autism

Key Requirements
Justify teaching strategies, differentiation methods, and formative assessment techniques.

Explain how your strategies enhance student engagement and achievement.

Use credible sources (e.g., AITSL, ACARA, NESA, QCAA, academic journals, book chapters, MyReadings).
Integrate visuals of your lesson plan into the presentation

Focus on justification, not description-assume your marker already understands lesson planning fundamentals.
This structured approach will help you create a clear, professional, and well-supported presentation that effectively justifies your teaching decisions.

Instructions
To complete this assessment task, follow the steps below:

Part A: Lesson Plan (1000 Words)
Create a detailed 1-hour lesson plan using the provided Lesson Plan Template (Located in your Blackboard site/Assessment 2 folder). To begin your lesson plan:
Select a year level and learning area (e.g., primary literacy, secondary mathematics).

Use the SCU Lesson Plan Template located to structure your lesson.

Ensure your lesson meets curriculum requirements, incorporating relevant learning outcomes.

Include key teaching strategies, instructional sequences, and behaviour management strategies.

Identify two diverse learners (from different categories, e.g., EAL/D student and a student with autism) and outline differentiation strategies.
Plan formative assessment techniques that align with the lesson objectives.

Part B: Video Presentation (8 mins) Uploaded to YouTube as UNLISTED and the link placed at the top of the lesson plan or on the cover page in the Assignment.
In your 8-minute video presentation, you will justify the teaching, differentiation, and assessment strategies used in your lesson plan. Your explanation should focus on why these strategies are effective for the content, year level, and diverse learners in your class.

As part of your presentation, you must identify two diverse learners from different categories and explain how your lesson is designed to support them. Choose two students from the list in the task description.
Your presentation should focus on justification rather than description. Assume your marker (and future mentor teacher) already understands the basic elements of a lesson plan. Instead of describing what is included, explain why your choices are effective in meeting student needs, curriculum requirements, and learning objectives.
Reminders:
Stick to the 8-minute time limit - Your marker will stop watching at 8.30, so ensure your presentation is concise and well-paced.
Keep slides visually engaging - Avoid large blocks of text. Instead, use keywords, images, and excerpts from your lesson plan to reinforce your key points.
Prioritise clear narration - What you say is the most important part of your presentation. Your slides should act as visual aids, not a script.
Orally cite references during your presentation - When discussing research, mention the author's name naturally in your speech (e.g., "According to Smith (2020), differentiated instruction..."). Ensure all sources are correctly cited in your APA 7th reference list on the final slide.
Ensure you save and include your transcript and reference list for submission with your lesson plan. You may append the transcript and reference list to the end of your lesson plan document.

Suggested Presentation Structure
Introduction (Approx. 1 minute)
Title slide - Include your name, unit details, and the topic of your lesson.

Lesson background:

Identify the selected outcome (NSW syllabus) / content descriptor (Australian Curriculum) that your lesson addresses. Be realistic-one or two outcomes per lesson is sufficient.

Identify your two diverse learners and provide relevant background information that explains their learning needs.
Justification of Teaching Strategies (Approx. 1.5 minutes)

Explain the teaching strategies and resources included in your lesson.

Justify how these strategies create a safe, engaging, and supportive learning environment.
