Assessment
This assessment requires you to prepare a written psychosocial assessment based on this video uploaded on Moodle. The video is a role play between a social worker and a client. Please note that the audio quality of the video is a bit unclear and we strongly encourage you to use headphones to listen to the video.
The task has two components: a formal assessment report (1000–1200 words) and a reflective commentary (800–1000 words) on the process of completing it.
Psychosocial Assessment Report (1000–1200 words)
Your psychosocial assessment report should include:
1. Client background and family history
Provide a clear account of the individual’s personal and family context, supported by a genogram that visually maps family relationships and dynamics.
2. Assessment of key issues by applying key theories and concepts
Identify and analyse the central issues affecting the client, drawing on relevant social work theories and concepts to frame your understanding.
3. Summary and recommendations
Present a clear, non-judgemental summary of your findings along with well-reasoned recommendations for intervention that are grounded in evidence.
4. Ethical considerations
Demonstrate awareness of social work ethics and responsibility and ethical practice principles throughout the report, including considerations around confidentiality, cultural sensitivity, and client dignity.
Reflective Component (800–1000 words)
The reflective component (remaining word count of 800–1000 words) should discuss your experience of completing the assessment, including the logic behind your approach, how theory informed your analysis, and any challenges encountered.
Your report should be precise, professionally written, clearly structured, and supported by a wide range of contemporary references cited appropriately.
It is strongly suggested that students use the following psychosocial assessment template.
