Assignment Overview:

In this Assignment, you are required to identify an object from your everyday life. It could be a part of a toy, appliance, tool, or something else.

The learning objective is to identify the function of the part, how GD&T can be used to convey that functionality, and how to control and inspect for the geometric controls.

Through the four parts outlined below, you will study the part, assign appropriate GD&T controls to it, and determine how you could use datums and proper inspection tools to verify whether your part conforms to the GD&T controls that you have assigned to it.
Important Notes:

1. Object Selection: You must be able to bring the actual object to class. Keep that in mind while selecting the object.

2. At this point in the course, we have only covered form and orientation controls, along with datum systems. The geometric controls that you apply can be limited to form and orientation; however, before the Assignment is due, you will have learned other Geometric controls that you can also apply if you wish. Part 1

Select an object from your everyday life that GD&T controls and Datums could "Legally" be applied to.

Reminder: You must be able to bring the actual object to class.

Attach a Graphic image of it (a photograph or a scanned sketch) in JPEG format into the main document.

Part 2

Identify two primary Mechanical functions for this part. (e.g., Must assemble to another part(s), smooth rolling, must not wobble when placed on a flat surface).

Briefly describe the two

Part 3

Assign a minimum of two geometric tolerances, GD&T, including at least one that requires the use of datums to the part to ensure that the part will successfully achieve its two primary functions.

Create a sketch to show where the GD&T controls and Datum(s) will be applied.

Assign physical sizes and geometric tolerances; however, you will not be marked on the magnitude of the tolerances.

Part 4

Describe the steps involved in the Inspection (setup and measurement) of both the controls applied by you.
