A minimum of five contemporary references should be used for this assessment, within five to seven years of publication, following APA 7th edition criteria Complete the assessment task using Gibbs' Reflective Cycle.
1. Identify an ethical dilemma or ethical case from your clinical experience.
- Do not self-plagiarise from an ethical dilemma used in a previous unit or from an online scenario.
- Maintain confidentiality at all times. Do not identify the location of the dilemma or include any patient identifiers.
2. Use Gibbs’ Reflective Cycle:
- Description: Set the scene: what happened, when, who was there. Keep this information succinct and to the point.
- Feelings: Discuss your feelings and thoughts during the experience.
- Evaluation: What went well? What didn’t go well? How did the actions undertaken contribute to the situation?
- Analysis: Make sense of what happened using literature to support your statements. Why did things go well or not go well? Could there have been a different response? What may have improved the situation? Theory and experience come together here.
- Conclusion: What can be concluded from the situation?
- Action Plan: What will you do differently next time? What steps will you take to improve and learn? Do not say “next time I will…”. You need to develop a plan to achieve these goals.
