Moral Education Project Instructions
For this task, you are required to create a "Moral Education Exhibition" that uses ethical thinking to explore a real-world ethical dilemma.
Your exhibition can be based on any real-world ethical dilemma. You will select one of five ethical systems from the table below, research the principles of the ethical system, then apply those principles to make an ethical judgment about your real-world dilemma.
Process:
• Select an ethical system and explore its strengths, weaknesses, and principles used to make a moral judgment.
• Identify a real-world ethical dilemma.
• Choose two objects to display that exhibit or demonstrate your conclusions about the ethical dilemma and how this dilemma manifests in the world.
• Write a 600-800 word paper with four sections: 1) Ethical System of choice with strengths, weaknesses, and principles clearly stated, 2) A description or summary of a real-world ethical dilemma, 3) A description of your objects and how they relate to your project, and, 4) A conclusion as to how your exploration and your objects help deepen your understanding of ethical actions.
• Share your exhibition during the assigned Moral Education Exhibition day
• Reflect on how this exhibition(the collection of objects and the exploration of the real-world ethical dilemma) helps to deepen our understanding of how we determine "right" ways of acting in the world. This will be completed in your Moral Education class after the Exhibition is completed. You will complete a brief typed reflection answering two questions: 1) What were your original ethical reactions/thoughts about the ethical dilemma you chose and did those reactions/thoughts change as you completed the project?, and, 2) How would you define your own moral beliefs and what system (from the project list) was most similar? Which one was most different? Why?
Product:
You are required to submit:
• An accompanying text (600-800 words) consisting of three sections: An exploration of ethical system, a description and/or summary of an ethical dilemma, a description of your objects and the relation to your exhibition, and a conclusion as to how your exploration and your objects help deepen your understanding of ethical actions.
• Images of your two objects.
In your accompanying text make sure that you:
a.) Introduce your chosen ethical system and explain why you have selected this focus for your exhibition. (Suggested 200 words)
b.) Summarize your ethical dilemma and what makes it a dilemma. (Suggested 200 words)
c.) Provide a short commentary on your objects that clearly identifies each object and its context and that explains how these objects connect to your exhibition.(Suggested 100 words per object, 200 words total)
D.) Evaluate how this collection of objects and the exploration of your ethical system and dilemma helps to deepen our understanding of acting ethically in the real world.(Suggested 200 words)
