CASE STUDY -you are working as an Enrolled Nurse in a group home facility. One of your clients is Joseph. Joseph is 40 years old and lives in a group home with two other people since leaving his parents' home in 2008. Joseph has an acquired brain injury from a motor vehicle accident (MVA) in 2006. Joseph has reduced mobility and requires a wheelchair for mobilisation.
When starting your morning shift, Joseph states he is feeling unwell. You complete a set of vital signs and it shows he has a temperature of 38.2 degrees C. All other vital signs are within his usual range.Joseph states he has pain with urination and has frequency and urgency when needing to pass urine and that his urine has an offensive odour. Joseph also complains of feeling nauseated and has had a reduced appetite for the last 3 days. When asked about his bowel motions, Joseph states he has not had a bowel movement in 5 days. He is also complaining of gum and mouth pain which he thinks is due to his dentures not fitting correctly.n (think of non-pharmacological interventions).
