Suzy is 12 years old and lives with her mother and older brother. Her parents have been divorced a few years. Her mom says that anytime she gets really upset, she writes horrible things in reference to her mother. She says things like, "I wish you were dead or got hit by a car". When mom asks her why she lashes out that way, Suzy replies, "because you make me mad". Her mom notices that her trigger is mostly due to school. When her mom gets on her case about homework or studying, Suzy gets very frustrated then very angry. Her dad is in the picture, but he lives out of state. Suzy's mom has been a single mother for several years. Suzy is raised in a Christian environment. She enjoys drawing and talking with her friends on the phone. She typically stays to herself in her room. Other than her occasional outburst, she seems to have a decent relationship with her mom. She is not too affectionate, but she allows her mom to give her hugs from time to time and especially loves to playfight.

According to Josh McDowell, rebellion can manifest in homes when there are rules in place with no relationship. It is so important to have a solid relationship with your child no matter the chaos that may be going on.
