Learning Outcome 1: Gain a systematic and critical view of the link between experiences of vulnerability and abuse and contact with the police as victim and/or offender
Learning Outcome 2: Gain a systematic and critical view of police responsibilities when encountering those with vulnerabilities and their responses to police contact
Learning Outcome 3: Gain a systematic and critical understanding of youth justice system considerations and partnerships in Wales, including Children First, Offender Second
Learning Outcome 4: Gain a systematic and critical view of the exploitation of vulnerable people by organised crime groups or individuals
Learning Outcome 5: Gain a systematic and critical view of the evidence linking adverse childhood experiences and trauma and youth crime
Learning Outcome 6: Gain a systematic and critical view of current police practices when dealing with vulnerability
Assessment 1
1. Complete a risk assessment for a vulnerable young person as per scenario provided Word count: 2,000 words (+/-10%).
Choose a risk assessment tool such as ASSETPlus or FRAME (Scotland) and complete a risk assessment for Shelley or Petey who are discussed in the scenario below. You can choose another risk assessment tool but do check whether it is appropriate with me. The risk assessment should not take more than 1,500 words, use 500 words to reflect on your confidence in the risk assessment, missing information, questions raised by conducting the risk assessment, etc.

Assessment 2
For coursework assessment, students are required to write a critical essay on a topic of their interest. The essay topic should be relevant to the content of the module and relate specifically to:
• Partnership working in relation to young people who offend
• Policing practices in responding to vulnerable young people
• Approaches to working with young people such as Children First, Offender Second; trauma informed practice, or restorative justice
Word count: 3,000 words
A Good Essay:
A good essay will achieve the following criteria:
1. Answer the question
2. Demonstrate critical ability i.e. to be able to think and write analytically
3. Show clarity of thought, and manifest this in a coherent and well-structured argument
4. Demonstrate a breadth of reading and familiarity with a range of relevant debates and/or viewpoints
5. Use this material appropriately and effectively as ‘evidence', ie to back up your own line of reasoning
6. Employ an appropriate, academic writing style, with good spelling, punctuation and syntax
7. Employ an appropriate referencing style and use it consistently and accurately
