Assignment Description

In this assignment, you will create a 3-5-minute Zoom video that describes how you will apply the social work technology standards with the use of a social media or online communication tool to address an economic or social injustice.

You will describe how the technology standards are used to support your professional use of the social media or online communication tool, such as Facebook, Skype, Twitter, e-mail, blog, Google Chat, or others. It is appropriate to reference the technology standards in your video presentation. Use the course readings to best prepare for this assignment.

Assignment Instructions

Structure your 3-5-minute video as follows: Introduce yourself and present yourself in a professional manner. Describe briefly the specific social media and/or other online communication tools you will use to address the social or economic injustice issue you selected in your Unit 2 assignment.

These may include Facebook, Skype, Twitter, Instagram, e-mail, blog, Google Chat, or another tool of your choice. Explain how you will protect the rights of clients when using the social media or online communication tool you identified and how you will avoid entering a dual role with clients using social media, which would be an ethics violation.

Apply specific standards from the Standards for Technology in Social Work Practice to advocate for social action and client advocacy using the social media or online communication tool you identified. Apply specific standards from the Standards for Technology in Social Work Practice to demonstrate leadership behaviors (for example, respect for diversity, ethical and effective use of technology, strengths-based perspective, et cetera).

Describe how you will apply the Standards for Technology in Social Work Practice to support a specific use of professional social media or online communication tool to address the injustice you selected in your Unit 2 assignment. Discuss how social media communication addresses a theory of social behavior and the social environment.

Apply leadership skills as social change agents through identification of collaborative partners and identified stakeholders to advance social, economic, and or environmental well-being for those impacted by the injustice issue you selected for your Unit 2 assignment. Demonstrate critical thinking by summarizing how the chosen social media or online tool you identified can promote human rights. Communicate in a manner that is scholarly, professional, and consistent with expectations for members of the social work profession.
