Questions:

1. In a real life example from Tom's internship, a black boy who brought a knife on the school bus very much needs therapy because aside from that concerning mistake his two mothers report that he has been physically aggressive with them, in addition to some other concerns. The boy has a father and stepmother who black, Christian, homophobic, and believe "therapy is for white people." On his other side, the boy has two mothers, a mom and stepmom, who are black, lesbian, and want to see their son in therapy. How would you as the social worker approach this situation from a standpoint of cultural humility / competence / sensitivity if you also concurrently believe the boy would greatly benefit from individual and/or family therapy.
2. If in the future you are a couples therapist for a bi-racial couple, a black woman and a white man, how would you address an ongoing conflict between the couple where the wife expresses frustration with her husband because he does not believe in systemic racism, tells her that her successful career proves that white privilege does not exist, and says that he is colorblind and does not see color as an issue between people?
