Walter is a 65-year-old Native American male who has been an alcoholic most of his life. He was recently charged with DUI and lost his driver's license in a plea bargain. In addition, he has been getting angrier at his wife and children and knows he is in danger of becoming physically abusive. During his intake interview with you, he tells you about when his family was dislocated during the U.S. government's "termination policy" of Native tribes and the acquisition of their lands. You learn that, as a child, he hopped back and forth between relatives and therefore, never had a real home, much less an education. Walter lived from paycheck to paycheck through much of his adulthood. Now unemployed and with no job prospects, he feels angry towards the government and hopeless about the rest of his life.
