Question
1. How can you help the preceptor prepare for the emergency case?
• I can help the preceptor by quickly opening the OR, swiftly open all of the sterile supplies, setting up the sterile field, and assisting with the overall setup of the case. I will make sure to listen to what the preceptor is telling me to do, while also keeping in mind that this is a very quick matter that we are in.
2. How will your role as a surgical tech help the circulating nurse in the room? What are some limitations?
• I can help the circulating nurse by prepping my supplies and equipment, maintaining a sterile field, and free their hands of anything they might be doing so that they can focus on the patient. Some limitations include not being able to administer medications, document or chart anything, or perform any assessments on the patient. I also must keep in mind to stay sterile and in the sterile field.
3. You have scrubbed into the case after the initial instrument count. How many sponge counts are performed, and at what point during the c-section?
• There is the initial count before the incision, the second.
