TOPIC: DIABETES AMONG CHILDREN TODAY

1:5 children in the United States are at risk of developing diabetes before they become an adult (HHS, 2020). 1:4 Louisiana children are Pre-Diabetic and Louisiana leads the country in being the most obese state in the America. African - Americans are 5 times more likely to become diabetic and die from diabetes than any other country in the world. College students on campuses across America are the leading targets for combatting diabetes and heart disease especially on HBCU campuses like Grambling State University (GSU). This topic is being discussed and The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences and the Department of Kinesiology and Leisure Studies have partnered with the Black Women's Health Initiative (BWHI) CL2x to bring awareness to GSU's students, faculty, administration and alumni to combat the spread of diabetes on our campus and in the community.
