Task Description: Critically reflect on two historical and contemporary approaches, two theories, and two relevant frameworks (the EYLF and NQS) answering the question: How will these approaches, theories and frameworks assist me in understanding children in my work as an Early Childhood Teacher (ECT)?

Two historical (Locke, Rousseau,etc.) and contemporary approaches (e.g., Montessori, Reggio Emilia, Steiner, Play-Based Learning, etc.)- See Irving, Chapter 1
Two early childhood theories (e.g., Piaget's Cognitive Development, Vygotsky's Sociocultural Theory, Bronfenbrenner's Ecological Model, etc.)- See Mukherji, Chapter 5 and week 3 Moodle
Two frameworks (required: EYLF and NQS)
Reflect Critically on the Central Question
"How will these approaches, theories and frameworks assist me in understanding children in my work as an Early Childhood Teacher (ECT)?"
To do this effectively:
Explain the key ideas of each approach/theory/framework in your own words
Analyse how they help you understand childrens development, needs, learning styles, behaviours, or identities
Make connections between these ideas and your future pedagogy
Provide examples to support your reflections
Create and Record Your Video
Use your phone, webcam, or recording software (e.g., Zoom, Screencast-O-Matic)
You must be visible and speaking clearly in the video
Use visual aids (slides, props, drawings) if helpful, but do not rely on them alone
Speak clearly, confidently, and professionally
Upload Your Video to YouTube
Create a YouTube account (if you don't already have one)
Upload your video as Unlisted (not Private, or Lecturers will not be able to view it)
Copy the YouTube video link and put that in word document.
Create a Word Document for Submission
Your document must include:
Your full name and student ID
The link to your YouTube video
A reference list in APA 7 style with at least 6 academic/professional sources
Use journal articles, academic texts, and professional frameworks (e.g., EYLF, NQS)
Check for in-text citations in your video script and align them with your reference list
Referencing Requirements
APA 7 referencing style is required
