Research Articles

This could prove to be a very interesting assignment for you if you are curious like I am.  There is a wealth of research being conducted every second in the world that could lead to potential cures and innovations or to disaster. Consider how the research that led to the polio vaccine saved millions of lives and how the research into nuclear fission led to the bombing and killing of almost as many as well.  The tricky part to this assignment is to find research that is legitimate.

For example, there is research that says that caffeine is good for you and some that says that it is bad for you. Which one is correct?  Can they both be right? How can we determine which research is right?  I would suggest starting at www.sciencedaily.com and sift through the material there for an idea on what to research . You can even use their internal search engine to find a subject matter that is important to you.  However, the actual article you use must be from a peer-review journal.  Consult the college library if you need help understanding how to find one.  But this is a very important component of college/university level work.  Maybe you have a cousin that was born with six fingers.  Maybe you have a child of your own you think may be a genius. What does the research say?

For this assignment, you will find one piece of research for each of your papers (you have two due this semester).  The criteria is simple, the research must be published in a peer-reviewed journal. This means that when it was submitted, people who are experts in the same field read it and made sure it was legitimate and met certain criteria for publication.

This doesn't mean that the research is always right. For example, I have provided you here with a link to the story of Andrew Wakefield, the prominent British physician who said that vaccinations were the cause of Autism. However, his research was fake and the publication of his research was retracted, meaning taken off the books.
